The Boyfriend Makes Dinner

A Korean-American in love with a German-American who loves to make tostadas…

Pick yer poison!

A match made in Tex-Mex heaven!

The Boyfriend learned to cook when he was 8.  Everyone had to pull their weight in his family, and that meant you cooked dinner one night of the week for the whole fam.  Kinda like how I was raised…

One of his specialties is tostadas and, boy, does that work for me.  When we first started dating he lived in Santa Monica and I was in Brooklyn, so I would visit him from time to time.  He fixed me tostadas on one of those visits and I knew it was kismet that I’d met him at a party in Brooklyn.

In the night kitchen…

I was touched that he would make me a meal he’d made his family as a young lad in Kansas.  I took it as a sign that he liked me and trusted me with such a family tradition because I do not cook any of my family’s recipes for anyone I do not care about, much less burn their toast…

Observing someone cooking for you is a good way to get to know their character and mettle.   Are they trustworthy, calm in the face of a storm, kind to cats (who might want to jump up and check out what you’re making?)  You have to know what you’re getting yourself in to…

…but I wouldn’t advise getting involved with anyone who can’t cook.  For reals.

Beans and lard

What’s that all about?

“It’s all in the way you cheese it…”

What, you’re going to do all the cooking in the relationship?  Or keep ordering take out?

He loves me!

How much take out can you possibly eat?  Okay, don’t answer that.

That’s what I’m talkin’ about!

Just hold out for the one.
