Sister Soju

I was recently in a Southern food restaurant where I noticed that all their cocktails were made with soju.

Another way to pickle your watermelon rind

It’s cuz they didn’t have a liquor license.

Well soju at 20% alcohol can get you toasted, but it will take you a bit longer.  Maybe that was their ploy after all…

Watermelon spells summer

But the point of cocktails is not to always to get wasted, right?  No really.

Just add strawbs!

It’s to enjoy a beverage much like the Dude enjoyed his White Russians.  And soju is great for infusing with flavors you like–try watermelon or strawberry, or try them together.

Infusion approved

Speaking of Russians, I am enjoying my soju while reading Audre Lorde’s essay about her trip to Russia to attend a conference.  She writes about the wonderful outdoor markets and how she looked forward to visiting them.  I like to think she would have found some good fruits to infuse with soju.

Enjoy with a good read

Another good thing about soju is that you won’t get so drunk that you can’t remember what you read.   Or drank.

What we must do is commit ourselves to some future that can include each other and to work toward that future with the particular strengths of our individual identities.
